Specialist Spool Cleaning
When working with clients, we have the capabilities and resources to carry out regular and routine maintenance work alongside more bespoke projects. This was the case for a recent project with one of our longstanding clients, one of Scotland’s leading mechanical engineering firms, who required urgent support in countering the impact of corrosion.
This project illustrated the capabilities of our Aqua Milling® technology as well as our in-house facilities in the north-east of Scotland.
Challenge
On a series of 12x reducer spools, the client was experiencing the negative consequences of loose product sentiment caused by corrosion. At first, the client tried to handle the spread of corrosion internally via several cleaning procedures, including the traditional method of retro-jetting.
While effective in some cases, retro-jetting, a handheld procedure that requires multiple entry points, has limited scope in cleaning abilities and can’t always access diverse diameters – something that each of the 12 spools had.
In order for the pipework to be fitted onto a new compressor system, the client needed to ensure that no loose sediment would be found within the system.
Solution
After previous experiences with our expert team and an understanding of the specialist cleaning solutions we provide, the client shipped the spools to Pipetech for cleaning. Our go-to solution for removing corrosive elements, our Aqua Milling® technology, was selected as the tool of choice for the job.
Alongside being able to clean to a higher standard, Aqua Milling® has the unique ability of tracking changes within a system’s inner pipe circumference – something that other traditional systems can’t achieve.
Assembling a team of three highly experienced personnel, we got to work cleaning the spools at our facilities in Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire. To ensure that no water from the use of Aqua Milling® was wasted or disposed of in drains, each spool was self-contained, as was the Aqua Milling® system itself. Following cleaning, the waste and water from the cleaning operation are sent to a local processing facility for safe reuse.
In addition to the Aqua Milling® solution provided, a camera inspection, both pre- and post-cleaning, was delivered to the client to compare results, followed by an end-of-project report.
Results
As a result of our intervention, the client’s system was thoroughly cleaned and debris-free, ready for installation on-site.
Thanks to our involvement and the use of our Aqua Milling® technology, we were able to provide the highest level of cleanliness, while our capacity to clean off-site provided immense value to the client. This project was part of our fully enclosed, environmentally conscious approach to cleaning.
Due to the high quality of work achieved, the Pipetech team was again mobilised at the request of the client to visit their site and clean additional parts of the same system to guarantee it was debris-free.
