> Name, job title, and length of time working for Pipetech
My name is Tomas Bernhardsson, and I’m the Operations Manager for Pipetech in Norway. I first joined the company in 2006, so I’ve been here for nearly 20 years.
> Can you tell us what a typical day looks like for you and outline what your key responsibilities are?
No two days are the same, but my role revolves around keeping projects running smoothly and ensuring our teams have what they need. On a typical day, I’m:
Engaging with clients & suppliers.
Planning projects and allocating resources.
Ordering equipment, building tools, and other specialist systems we use for cleaning.
Coordinating work at the workshop.
Organising shipping and logistics.
Essentially, I oversee day-to-day operations and make sure everything is in place so our teams can deliver high-quality service on site.
> How do you ensure Pipetech Norway aligns with the Aberdeen office?
Strong communication is absolutely key. I stay in regular contact with my colleagues in Aberdeen to make sure we’re aligned and working towards the same goals. We also make use of site visits between offices, along with shared ISO accredited internal processes and IT systems, which help us stay connected and ensure seamless collaboration across both locations.
> You’ve been with Pipetech for nearly 20 years. Can you walk us through your career journey and how this has prepared you for success in your current role?
Over the past 20 years at Pipetech, I’ve steadily progressed from Project Manager to my current role as Operations Manager. Each stage of my career has given me valuable hands-on experience in managing projects, leading teams, being involved in high-value critical projects and understanding the operational challenges of our industry. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of learning from colleagues with a wealth of expertise, which has broadened my perspective and strengthened my leadership skills. This combination of practical experience and collaborative learning has equipped me with the knowledge and skills I rely on to succeed in my role today.
> What is it that separates Pipetech from its competitors?
I think two things really set us apart:
– Our commitment to finding solutions that are tailored to the client’s needs. We don’t just provide a service – we work closely with the customer to make sure the solution fits.
– Our specialist focus. Pipe cleaning is our core business, and because of that, we’ve become true experts in this area.
> Has there been a recent project that you have worked on that has demonstrated Pipetech’s capabilities? Were there any challenges? How did you overcome them?
This summer, we delivered a large-scale project across two major fields in Norway, which involved executing work on five different platforms at the same time. The operation required us to carefully coordinate multiple pump units, vacuum units, and several crews working in parallel. We deployed our industry-recognised Aqua Milling® technology to effectively remove scale within the systems and then confirmed the results with detailed camera inspections.
The biggest challenge was managing such a complex operation with a relatively small core team. However, thanks to solid organisation, thoughtful planning, and close collaboration with our UK team, we managed to deliver the projects on time and with excellent outcomes, which our clients confirmed with their fantastic feedback. It was a great demonstration of both our technical capabilities and our ability to handle challenging, large-scale operations.
> Where do you see the future of Pipetech?
I’m optimistic about the future. I see a lot of potential in our Downhole Scale Remediation (DSR) technology globally and believe we can expand further into refineries and chemical plants. With the backing of Denholm Environmental Services, we’re also in a strong position to win large projects by combining Denholm’s expertise in water jetting and decontamination with Pipetech’s technologies like Aqua Milling® and Aqua Sonic®. Overall, the future looks very promising.
